England - North York Moors to Scarborough

Next morning we headed off to Helmsley Castle ruins which is managed by English Heritage. It was built in the 1100s on what is now the southern edge of the North York Moors National Park. It was once a mighty medieval fortress but only parts of it still remain. These impressive barbican gates weren't built until the 1200s.
